IN THE BEGINNING
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
AXIS formed in late December 2008 as the trio of Johnny Vines, Matthew Chadwick, and Matt Lonergan. We had jammed together multiple times previously, just for the fun of it, but when the unformed band was offered a show, we decided it was time to get serious. In two weeks, we put together a half-hour set, and at our first show, at the Toms River Library\'s Mancini Hall, we were well recieved by the crowd. The crowd loved the shadows of Mystical Fudge in the music, while playing the songs in a style that made them seem revitalized. Then, we decided that we wanted to play in the High School East Talent Expo. Unfortunately, Matt Lonergan, being in college, was not allowed to play by the event organizers. So we had to find another bass player. Eventually, we found John Tucci, a sophmore at east, who agreed to fill in just for the one show. We began practicing. Then, we played the show, and we won! The crowd loved it! We were beside ourselves with excitement. Soon after, the change in bass players became permanent, and John Tucci became the new bass player for AXIS.

THE EARLY YEARS
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
After 2 months, we began a regular schedule of shows, at one point having shows every weekend for a month. It was during this stretch that we got our first taste of a big success: on May 16, 2009, we won 1st out of 56 bands at the Exposure music festival at the Trocadero in Philadelphia. A few months later, we also won the 3rd annual Upper shores Library Battle of the bands.
Shortly After this, Johnny began his Enrollment at Rowan University, so the band became weekend warriors, Practicing and Gigging only on weekends when Johnny was able to get home. However, the sound of Axis continued to improve, and they played many Large gigs such as the Toms River Oktoberfest, multiple shows in Waretown, and the Upper Shores Battle the following year. It was also around this time that They found a Regular place to play at the Local Shack before it unfortunately closed down. The Local Shack would help Axis get shows such as the Rootstock Music Festival, and opening for Lakewood Blueclaws baseball games.
Unfortunately, it was at one of these Lakewood Games that would redefine the direction of Axis. on July 24, after a set that was cut short, the band decided that playing with the band was hurting Chadwick more than it was helping him. They made the tough decision to part ways, leaving Axis without a drummer less that a week before they were slated to play a Battle of the Bands for a Local Radio Station, 150.7 the Hawk.

THE ARRIVAL OF ERIK
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Thus, Erik Marley entered the picture. Johnny immediately called up Erik, explaining the Situation, and Erik agreed to fill in for the important show. Johnny and Erik got together once for 2 hours, and then once for 30 minutes with John Tucci before the show. Then, they were on. Erik performed well considering the amount of Practice, and the band was satisfied with the performance. The next day, Johnny and John listened in amazement as they were announced as the winners of the Battle of the bands. Immediately, they contacted Erik and asked him if he would like to stay on as the new drummer, which Erik gladly agreed to.
Winning the Battle of the Bands meant that Axis would have its first National show, as the Grand prize was an opening slot for Rock Legends Kansas, as well as Dickey Betts from the Allman Brothers.
